What is work life balance?

For most employees an office is like a second home.  People spend most of their waking time in office.  By the time they reach home, they are already mentally and physically drained.  Home is like a place where they just recharge themselves to brace work at office for the next day. The corporate lifestyle has changed drastically over a period of time. Work has become more demanding than ever. Targets are needed to be achieved at a certain deadline.  Even after you might reach home you at times wont be able to evade phone calls related to work. Not to mforget about holidays being disrupted by phone calls too.

When people go on a vacation or on annual leaves they expect no disturbances or interruption from their work place.  No phone calls and no emails are supposed to be communicated. But is this practical in today's work lifestyle. Technology has its plus and negatives.  It is very easy to contact a person no matter where you are but it is also difficult to be unavailable and escape all those office phone calls.

What indeed is a proper work life balance?
It need not necessarily mean cutting out your work while being on vacation but it also would mean to have a proper work load distribution on a daily basis.  Well no one likes to be overburdened with excess presurre on daily basis.  It can be hazardous to one's health and also will lead to error on job.

It is not possible for us to return to the good old days of a  9am to 5pm office lifestyle.  People look out for other work lifestyle by opting for telecomunting work from home in order to be able to juggle between personal and professional life.

An employee needs to prioritise their needs and accordingly draw a line between work and home life.  Money does matter but will that money be of any good use, if you do not know on whom and how to spend it.  An employee at work can easily be replaced once they have left but the same theory cannot be applied to the loss of a family member hence, one needs to understand the value and the purpose of life.  I am not trying to deviate the topic by focusing on the ethics of family life by sideling work life, but merely just to remind you folks that dont get carried away along with the flock of sheep by going with the flow of a tiresome life that has no mean. That being easier said that done with todays given circumstances in life, many people have certain unavoidable commitments where they are forced to succumb to tacky work lifestyle by compromising their own health and life.  Live life to work and not work to live life.

Poem on a lady named Ms. Fall

This is very funny but I felt that I needed to share this incident. I was at work with my colleagues. There was an important meeting scheduled and a visitor by the name Ms. Fall was scheduled to arrive and join in the meeting.

Unfortunately, she did not show up on time and the meeting was terribly delayed by one hour. We tried calling her mobile serveral times but it was switched off.
In her anticipation we had to kill some time.
I had my notepad and pen ready for the meeting so I just penned down my thoughts as a poem dedicated to her.

“Fall has fallen down!

Fall has fallen down!

So have the leaves from the trees

Soon it will be autumn,

And Fall will be still fallen

No one to wake poor Ms. Fall,

From her long slumber

So we will see her next September,

Hope she will still remember

To keep her mobile on,

Whe we try to call."

Have you smelt the roses recently?

Do we actually take the time to smell the roses? With a life filled with ups and downs, busy schedules and deadlines do we even remember to take the time off. It looks as if time is controlling our life and we are not able to catch up for the lost time.

A person needs to know that even though time and money both are important, health should be our utmost priority. If you do not take care of your health then your might end up spending all your time and money in solving and curing your problems.
I am pretty sure, that people often tend to say that the time has passed so quickly.

Time is a constant factor  neither can it move fast nor can it move slow.  It is we who are lost in time and space.  I do not blame you for your situation but it is we who asked to be in this situation. The choices that we make in at certain points in our life have specific consequences. For example, if you choose to take up a job that is too demanding, straining, pressuring and constantly keeping you on your toes then you need to realize that it will take a toll on you more quicker than a job that might not be so demanding. Well money is the controlling factor in everyone's life.

"Demand is the root cause all problems" goes a famous saying by Lord Gautam Buddha. When a demand arises a person will embark a journey to conquest and fulfil their demand.  A demand can be anything from purchasing a house to going on vacation. When you need to buy a house you might end up taking a loan from the bank and then you end up working in a stressful job which pays you high salary for the price of your health. So do not forget to slow down in life and take a break by taking the time to smell the roses.

LOL!

When was the last time you laughed so much that let your eyes water up. Research says that it takes around 14 muscles of your face to create a smile and it takes around 43 muscles to create frown. My question is how many muscles does it take to laugh out loud - LOL!Well it would take around 80 muscles if you have a real good loud laugh. This could also mean that your face would blush with redness. Not blushed with embarrassment but with red due to your muscles being flexed out.Laughter indeed has many medical benefits as researched by medical experts. It can reduce stress, elevate hormones, lower the blood pressure, exercise the muscles and over all positively have a great effect on the immune system. As there is a famous saying; laughter is a tranquilizer with no side effects take it regularly! In fact April 14th is International Laughter Day! So do remember to laugh a day but also do not laugh for the heck of laughing without any reason. Have a laughter today!

How to deal with stressful days at work!

Employees are an asset to every organisation. Lets not become an ass just like the zebra illustrated in the picture by loosing its stripes.Yikes!! Stress can not just affect you but also the people around you. Everyone goes though stressful days at work in office over a course of time. It has now become a part and parcel of life that one cannot evade it no matter how much some one may want to unless you take radical steps to make changes in your life by choosing a different lifestyle. However, it is always advisable to leave your worries at work rather than to take it home along with you. Taking your office problems at home will only make matters worse for you leading to depression and anxiety in your life.If you work in a place where you have to daily deal with difficult clients, ridiculous deadlines, targets and problematic situations then I am definitely sure that there would have been days on your weekends when you must have felt that you do not want to go to work and face the daily rut of your job. Well I know of one thing that if you keep thinking of it continuously over a period of time you will reach your saturation point quicker than expected with your job.It is better to take one day at a time. Do not try to think of it at all times. Keep yourself busy and try to divert your mind when you land up in annoying situation. At work when you find yourself in a very frustrating situation it is suggestible to follow the below steps which are very easy and simple.
  • Try
to find a secluded place to avoid further distraction. Maybe you can just walk away to a rest room and a take few minutes break.
  • The next step
sounds very easy but it is difficult.  Try not to get overwhelmed by the mental block of anger, stress and frustration due to the situation that you are facing at the moment.
  • Calm yourself down
by closing your eyes and take in deep breaths very slowly. (When I say deep breaths it does not mean rapid breathing! Take a deep breath right into your stomach and count from one to five and then slowly release your breath).  Try to focus on the point between both your eyes at the forehead with your eyes closed.
  • Unwind
-The next step may sound strange, but you need to start letting your jawbone loosen by focusing on your areas around your teeth and tongue. Loosen all your facial joints slowly by focusing on your tensed nerves. (Just to give an example you loosen up your mouth muscles as if you feel like you are going to drool or your mouth waters at the sight of a lemon or ice-cream)
  • Continue
the above step and try to loosen your major tensed joints starting from your head, moving to your neck, shoulder, tips of your fingers, your waist, knee and finally your toes. After you have completed the unwinding process, open your eyes slowly and think that you are ready for a new start! If you do this is in your frantic situations you will slowly learn how to control your tensed nerves and it will be one of the steps where you can take control of your life.Hope this helps you in you’re frustrating times. Take care of yourself and remember that life is too precious to worry or stress over it, so make the best of it by living your life meaningfully.
